As predicted, CLO equity prices are up almost 10% in April. ECC’s April NAV of $4.54 is up nearly 9% from March!

As I stated in my April 28th blog post, CLO equity prices were up 10% from their March lows.  Based upon my calculations, CLO equity pricing was up between 8% - 11%.  This is the first month that these funds’ NAVs have been up for quite a while.  Hopefully, we have hit bottom, and things will get better, albeit probably slowly.

One of the main purposes for me to start this website is to provide my readers with knowledge and understanding of the CLO markets so you feel more confident when investing in the asset class. I hope by providing you with an insight into how CLO equity pricing is performing in real time, it will give the needed information to make an informed your investment decision.

CLO equity pricing improved due to the slight hiccup in loan pricing that occurred in late February related to the AI software scare and the conflict with Iran.  The following two loan charts from Nuveen, a TIAA Company, show how tight the loan markets were before the market hiccup and the limited amount of pricing volatility, with loan pricing in many sectors not moving.  However, even the small pricing movement in several sectors has allowed adroit CLO managers to take advantage of the market movements to improve loans spreads and par.

CLO equity funds were up a bit in the last month and should continue their slow recovery as NAVs start to improve.  The fact that the market is in a “Risk On” environment should also help CLO equity pricing.

Prior to ECC’s announced April NAV, the stock was trading at a slight premium.  My guess is the stock will trade at a slight premium again probably around $4.60 in the next week or so.  Fingers Crossed!  Obviously, these funds still have a long way to go to recover their year-to-date 2026 losses. I can be patient while getting paid healthy dividends.

Last week I spent improving my data systems so I can report timely, accurate, and thoughtful analysis on these funds and other related funds. I have taken the opportunity to learn  Anthropic’s Claude AI tools (“Claude”) and implement them into my data analysis.  So far, my results have been mixed.  I know my understanding of Claude’s abilities is limited now but some of the projects that I have given Claude have worked tremendously and some not so much.  The most important thing that I was able to implement through Claude is directly linking my data to the CLO Equity Funds’ financial statements or information contained on their websites.  This link should ensure that the numbers that I am using are correct.

As I have learned throughout my career as an attorney and finance professional, anytime you implement new technology or systems, you absolutely must double-check all output.  At the beginning, it takes much more time and effort to properly structure, plan, test, and implement a new system. However, I am confident that the time I am spending now will pay off tenfold.

Now that most of the heavy lifting of the data infrastructure is done, I should be able to publish more insightful reports in a timely manner.  Please keep watching my website.
